The Undercomics 07 Report
What to say, what to say.
Let's start with the context: last weekend there were two cons here in Buenos Aires, the "Salon del Manga y el Anime" and "Undercomics 07". Both very different and similar at the same time. The Salon was located near the Obelisco, right in the center of the city, while Undercomics was in San Martin, in the suburbs. One place was a convention center, the other was an art school. One charged ten pesos for the entry, the other one. Stands and cosplay were present on both. The audience was pretty much the same, heavily focused on the manga/anime culture.
I can't say much about the Salon, since we weren't there. But from what I've heard the place was beautiful. But with the same problems the bigger events face down here: people only go to buy stuff. They pay the entrance ticket to attend a supermarket. No activities, and very little to do besides watching the cosplayers.
We faced the same problem at Undercomics, only with a fraction of the public (I believe there were around 500 people between both days). The concrete problems with the event were coming from aless than ideal organization. Tables were put whenever they could, there was no sense of directing the attendants to see every booth, and the wasn't much to do after buying...
Even so, I really hope that next year gets better. The place can be setup in a way that can be really useful and interesting. If the guys that organize it put some work on diffusion and organization, I feel that the event can indeed grow.
Anyways. After the cut, pictures!!

Our table layout on day one, saturday. We were in a classroom, pretty much away from the crowd. Not the ideal place to be. Luckily, we worked on that...
This was the view when you got up the stairs. As you can see, there was the problem of all the elements of the school laying around. A thing to work on.
Ann and the rest on the Paganus girls were there too (Noelia in the picture). From what she told me, they had good sales, which is a relief to see somebody doing good over there :)
She sold out on her mini "Kuro-Kuro" (lower left corner), which made me extremely proud. Go for them, girlfriend.
Derrewyn was also there on day one, presenting the mini she made with Mako and Lud, "Scared of Girls". Here we are crossing fists.
And the group shot.
End of day one, Martin and me going to his house, by way of subway. We were totally destryed after this. But this was waiting for us!
Don't ask.
After eating... pasta, we talked a while until Javier and Pablo, Martin's roommate, arrived, and we saw "In the Mouth of Madness", that movie b John Carpenter. I've never liked many of his works except for a few honorable exceptions, and this was not the case.Boring as hell. One day I'll have to write why I don't like Lovecraft at all...
Day two. We took the initiative and moved our wares to a more interesting place. Martin is posing like the dandy he is.
A close up of Luli's things. Pretty, pretty.

Me and Luli.
I stole Ann's necktie for a little...
And it had a couple of pins full of J-Rockery.
Derrewyn wasn't present on day two. She switched places with Ludeshka and Mako, who were at the Salon the day before. Here they are, tring to keep a straight face after the horrible thing I showed them all. Mako's hiding it behind the folder...
This was drawn on the door of the bathroom. The Nightmare, The Nightmare...
So. How did it went? As for sales, they were low, but not tragic. Probably because we had some new things, but it was pretty slow overall...
Next week there's another event, but we won't be there. Ann birthday, things I want to finish...
Off I go. Many things to do, and I'm already exhausted.
